What is the most astounding fact you can share with us about the universe?

The most astounding fact, the most astounding fact is the knowledge, that the atoms comprise life on earth; the atoms that pick up the human body, are traceable to the crucibles, that cooked light elements into heavy elements in their core, under extreme temperatures and pressures. These stars, the high mass ones among them, went unstable in their later years. They collapsed and then exploded, scattering their enriched guts, across the galaxy. Guts made of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and all the fundamental ingredients of life itself. These ingredients become part of gas clouds, that condense, collapse, form the next generation of solar systems stars with orbiting planets and those planets now have ingredients for life itself. So that when I look up at the night sky, and I know that yes, we are part of this universe, we are in this universe, but perhaps more important than both of those facts is that the universe is in us. When I reflect on that fact, I look up. Many people feel small, because they’re small and the universe is big, but I feel big, because my atoms, came from those stars. There is a level of connectivity. That’s really what you want in life, you want to feel connected, you want to feel relevant. You want to feel like your a participant in the goings on of activities and events around you. That’s precisely what we are, just by being alive. – Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson

I believe that everyone goes through a time in their lives, where expectations are not met, and disappointment and even sadness replaces it. Some people are able to brush this off and move forward and see that glass as half full. But then their are people like myself that need to lick their wounds, and process it slowly. I’ll be honest so far this year has been tough, and maybe emotionally tiring, but also amazing. I am going to be real here, coming out of University with high goals and willingness, then being slap with reality, is a downer, shit even. Even support from others don’t always help, but I understand everything is process, just need to keep reminding myself.

There are so many motivated and inspirational quotes out there, so I ain’t going to bore you with a tone of them. But however there is always one or two quotes, or motivated YouTube clips that I admire, and I believe the context is insightful. Unless science and Rocky was never your thing.

Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson answer to a question about the universe, hits the nail on the head for me. No matter your own opinion about “creation”, I think to me the core of his message is that we are from something big, and we should feel big, and feel like we are part of something. We won’t always know what it is, but we are not always alone in our sadness or disappointment.

Rocky Balboa motivating and hard reality speech to his son is something I reckon everyone should have on their phones, for those cloudy days. I think it speaks truth to this generation, and also a good reminder that feeling sorry for yourself is not always the answer.

Sorry if this post is a little low in mood, but I reckon its always good to give some realness. Anyway, thanks for stopping by, I hope you have a good day, afternoon and night.

The Bowerbird Bazaar

I would like to introduce you to the Bowerbird Bazaar. It has become a gem within the Adelaide community, and its main intention is to connect local designers, artist and sellers to the local Public. A big Etsy market if you will, a hub to support entrepreneur within design, and when Christmas comes around, it is usually the busiest place to be.

An artistic union – Andy Warhol and Ai Weiwei

Earlier this year I decided to do a quick sneaky trip over to Melbourne for a few days, to check out National Gallery of Victoria latest exhibition, Andy Warhol and Ai Weiwei.

This collaboration between NGV, Andy Warhol Museum and Ai Weiwei was something of dreams. I first read about this partnership on Instagram and knew I had to make a quick dash over to see it for myself, and I wasn’t disappointed.

“Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul” – John Muir

First Blog post for 2016, and I know its a long time coming since now we are already in March. How fast our time passes, and without notice it goes by far too quickly. Just coming back for a brief trip to Melbourne, which I thoroughly enjoyed, I think its time for me to look ahead, now uni is behind me, and start making choices for my future. Start really enjoying this freedom and make some changes.

This photo was taken from a bakery near where Peter and I stayed. The pastry was divine and its delicate storage display is a dream. I’m happy to admit I most likely eat more than my fair share of bread on a daily basis, and why not, curves just mean happy eating.

A good friend of mine, Haneen Martin – Founder of Zombie Queen and Consulting, has been working very hard over the last couple of years. She has been doing many jobs, still finishing her architecture degree and she is on her way of becoming a house hold name within the artist circles, and yesterday I was able to get some time on my hands and head down to her latest curating gig for YYK —> ADL (From Yogyakarta to Adelaide)
